Here is why learning a Trade is good

There’s been a growing trend for young people to be encouraged to go for learning a trade and here is why

There is a Wide scope.

Most people will think of skilled trades as plumbing, brick-laying, carpentry, cosmetology or tailoring but skilled traders can be found in a wide variety of sectors. From hospitality, media and broadcasting to healthcare and information technology.

Some sectors are in high demand and you will be tempted to go for those but, it is worth your while to explore others and think carefully about which skilled trade is a good fit for your interests and talents. Do not rush and make a poor shortsighted decision.

Note that even if you make the right decision and pick the right fit for you, there will be plenty of broken promises, unfulfilled expectations, and disappointment like in any other career.

If something isn’t working or didn’t pan out the way you expected do not give up, simply move on accept it, and only look back to remind yourself of what not to do. Remember also to follow your gut. Does a job offer seem too good to be true? Is there something that feels off about this project or person? Pay attention to the red flags and walk away if something seems off.

There’s more than one path to success

For a long time people have been told a degree is the only way to succeed. Due to this for a while there was a bit of a stigma about choosing a trade school over university. It’s like if you have a trade’s certificate you are getting less, but, this fortunately is beginning to change.

Some of the changes are because of the high levels of unemployment, the changing job landscape and advances in technology and new tools that are making trades cooler and more interesting. So, turning to trades is not that big of a decision and is the smart move to make.

By choosing trades, many are not just making a smart choice for their futures; they’re also starting a journey to success, albeit in a different way and are stepping up to fill important jobs that keep our world running. Also, and more importantly, are able to eat, put a roof over their head and support a family.

Higher Education is Expensive

Higher education costs are getting more and more expensive and they will keep getting pricier. Also, not all institutions offer the same value and so for those worried about making the wrong choice and wasting their money, learning a trade is ideal.

Skilled trades are ideal because they involve specialized skill learning and they involve hands on work. As this route does not require a 4 year or more stint in a college or university it means you can go to work as a solopreneur, work for someone else on and off or full time much sooner.

NOTE: It does not hurt but, will in fact benefit you to have a degree and also learn a trade.
